It is safe to say that I have a new style muse in Sammi (aka sammijefcaote) I am not 100% sure what to do with this information as it relates to myself by I am feeling compelled to do something with it. What I love about her is this blending of heritage (notice I didn’t say vintage) and things she can own like headwraps. I say heritage instead of vintage because I have always known those who head too far down the vintage path, I have done it as well, but the challenge with vintage is that it is so limiting and in its nature, dated. It also implies a certain level of preciousness. There are somethings however that stand the test of time, leather goods, jewelry, furniture and so on…

Clearly if I took her took her on as literal inspiration I would wind up as some eclectic Johnny Depp knock off, with too much jewelry and not enough shirt buttons buttoned. I have always struggled with distressed and well-worn clothing, either by nature or manufactured. Quite honestly it is a personal association, I come from a humble family that did not have the means for extravagances, and had my run of years as a punk rock teen. My first act upon a real paycheck was to upgrade my entire wardrobe to pieces that moved me away from the struggles of my youth and despite my recent interest in beginning to bring key elements back into my wardrobe I have yet to step fully away from the modern and crisp lines I am used to so I can better embrace what my truer aesthetic probably is.

There is also the challenge in translating what I see as Sammi’s style successes to my own, she is after all a woman and I am man, that brings along with it more tools to manipulate a balance with, she has hair and makeup, along with a richer level of jewelry and accessories and tools in her roster to manipulate the balance of things. She is also incredibly gorgeous.

Headwraps are clearly her thing, they are all new and she credits them back to Rock and Rose UK the nice thing that this adds to her look is a nice bit of heritage, again, not vintage… Combined with her jewelry it gives her who wardrobe a nostalgic vibe but it is paired with modern, clean lined sweaters and coats it creates a nice balance, even amidst shredded jeans and a body full of tattoos.

I don’t know how to quite internalize the inspiration she provides. The state of accessible menswear is pretty bad, between the over saturation of sportswear or the god-awful resurrection of bad nineties dad wear there isn’t enough at an affordable price that can allow for some flexibility. While i try to figure this out, please enjoy more of Sammi’s epic wardrobe. and styling choices.
